After Care

Here at Aerros Ink we believe that healing plays a big role in the way a tattoo looks over time. We use a product called Derm Shield which is an adhesive bandage that is laid on top of the tattoo. These tattoo bandages create a barrier around your tattoo protecting it from germs, dirt, bacteria and abrasion. These premium bandages will allow your new tattoo to breathe and help it naturally heal. The tattoo composite film bandage is latex free and is comprised of three layers: EVA film, matte PU film, and glassine. Derm Shield is completely waterproof to prevent any unwanted moisture from touching your ink.

Please let us know if you have a sensitivity to adhesives.

After Care With Derm Shield

  • We recommend leaving the bandage on for 5-7 days. No rush on removing it, eventually the adhesive will weaken on it’s own.

  • Remove the bandage using hot water to further weaken the adhesive. Once removed wash the tattoo thoroughly with anti-bacterial hand soap for two minutes with the pads of your fingers. Let the tattoo air dry, then keep moisturized with white unscented lotion.

  • It’s best to continue cleaning the tattoo 1-2 times a day and keeping it moisturized for the next 10-14 days.

Things to know

  • Excess sweat or submerging the bandage in water will prematurely weaken the adhesive. If your bandage comes off before 4-5 days, follow the non-bandage after care instructions until the tattoo is fully healed.

  • Watch for redness or irritation around the edges of the bandage which might indicate a reaction to the adhesive, or could simply be due to the skin being overly sensitive. If this occurs remove the bandage early by saturating the bandage with hot water ( as hot as you can stand ) without letting it directly hit your tattoo.

  • Do not attempt to remove the bandage without weakening the adhesive as this can severely damage your tattoo. ( similar to pulling scabs )

After Care Without Derm Sheild

Due to allergies or sensitive skin you may choose not to use Derm Shield, otherwise known as “the hard way”. Your new tattoo is a large open wound and must be treated as such. Uncovered tattoos are also more susceptible to damage, loss of color, and in the worst case infection. All that to say TAKE AFTER CARE SERIOUSLY if healing naturally.

  • For the first 3-5 days your tattoo must be cleaned every 3-4 hours with anti-bacterial soap ( unscented ) and then covered in a thin layer of Aquaphor ( thin transparent layer, if it’s cloudly/milky it’s too thick and will prevent proper healing )

  • For the next 10-14 days your tattoo should be cleaned at least twice a day using anti-bacterial soap. Once the tattoo dries completely, it should be kept moisturized with white unscented lotion regularly until the next wash.

Things to Know

  • Your new tattoo is an open wound and should be treated as such. Without a covering, your wound is more susceptible to infection from common activities.

  • excessive sweating or exposure to the elements, and submersion in water can lead to infection. ( hottubs, pools, lakes, ocean, river, even bathwater can carry contaminates into your wound )

  • Letting the tattoo dry out, exposure to direct sunlight for prolonged periods, picking at scabs, or even just bumping against objects or the force of a showerhead can effect the healing process. This can lead to voids where the ink is pulled out or promote infection.

FAQ

What is DermShield?

Derm Shield is a latex-free, transparent matte film adhesive bandage that offers maximum breathability and flexibility, providing optimal conditions for healing your tattoo.

Can I shower with Derm Shield?

It is water resistant, you can absolutely shower while wearing it, though not too hot or the adhesive will start to soften, and extended saturation can lead to premature peeling.

We recommend leaving the bandage on for 5-7 days. No rush on removing it.

What should I avoid while wearing Derm Shield?

Avoid too much working out or cardio as sweat can get stuck under the bandage.  Avoid hot tubs, saunas, and too much sun.
